Planting Trees, Saving Turtles…

Most timeshare resorts are involved in some type of green program that involves such things as recycling, water saving methods, use of environmentally friendly products and alternative energy sources.  Some timeshares are taking it to the next level. Not only do they promote environmental practices in their resorts, but they are also giving back to their community’s environment and looking out for the needs of future generations through worthwhile projects.

Wyndham’s Worldwide Commitment to Social Responsibility

One company committed to a program of conserving natural resources, preserving habitats and preventing pollution on a worldwide basis is Wyndham Worldwide. The WyndhamGreen program is used not just in their North American resorts, but in all of their resorts across the globe, including countries of Africa, and Central America, India and China. By adopting best practices with owners, franchisees, employees and guests, in 2013 Wyndham has reduced its carbon emissions by 13 percent and its water usage globally by 16 per square foot from its 2010 baseline.
Giving back to the communities that support their locations is also a top concern of the company. Here are a few of their projects:
  • Wyndham Vacation Ownership has launched a Million Trees Project which has already planted 450,000 trees in forest lands lost to fires.
  • With their Arbor Day Foundation Rain Rescue Program they help to save rain forests, promote human compassion, and support the Raw Forest Alliance certified coffee.
  • Wyndham Exchange and Rentals Indianapolis partners with Indian Land Trust to support the Browning Marsh, a wetland area with many rare and endangered species.

Royal Resorts Helps to Protect Mexican Sea Turtles

Royal Resorts, a timeshare company with resorts throughout Mexico, rescued and released 3,773 baby sea turtles into the ocean this year. The company’s Sea Turtle Protection Program has since its inception in 1998, released 522,394 turtles and protected 6,264 turtle nests. Not only is this a worthy conservation project, but members and guests staying at Royal’s resorts, are provided an awesome experience. During the season from August to November they can watch the exciting release of the baby turtles.

Employee Buy-In a Must for Efforts to Work

A sure sign that your resort’s business management sustainability programs are working, is gaining the support of the surrounding community. But programs also need buy-in by resort employees.
Grand Pacific Resorts (GPR) understands they need employee buy-in to support their environmental efforts. GPR supports its green program with a company-wide green committee, the Green Squad, comprised of employee representatives from each of its resorts. The committee meets monthly to develop new ideas and innovations to reduce their environmental impact and satisfy owner/guest expectations for environmentally conscious hospitality practices.
The company also strives to educate guests, who can be a big part of how well your program works, as to how they can help. During the regular Welcome Breakfast, guests are reminded of such things as to be conscious of A/C usage and to use alternate cooling methods like opening windows, or keeping windows closed when the A/C is on.  All these efforts must be working for GPR’s Carlsbad Seapointe resort. It won RCI’s 2013 top green recognition, the Platinum RCI Green Award.

According to Breckenridge Grand Vacations (BGV), their primary focus is highly committed to business management sustainability. Their employees and guests are empowered to devote daily operations to this effort. BGV also strives to positively impact the lives of owners, guests and employees.  Their focus seems to be working. BGV was selected as one the best places to work in a recent ranking by the Denver Post and has also won the industry ARDY Employer Choice award.  In addition, the town of Breckenridge and the High Country Conservation Center recognized their sustainability efforts by awarding them a 2014 Sustainable Breck Certificate. The certificate recognizes the adherence to the strict green standards set by the town of Breckenridge.

Timeshares Continue Strong Growth

New construction starts support the results of the American Resort Development Association’s (ARDA) research findings showing the timeshare industry to be one of the fastest growing. ARDA’s 2012 World Wide Shared Vacation Ownership Report showed North America topping the timeshare global list with the most properties—2500 resorts or 46 percent of the total market. Timeshare companies are actively involved in building and acquiring new additions to their properties.

Silverleaf Resorts is building a new sales center and reportedly bringing in award-winning companies like Architectural Concepts to design a more contemporary look for their resorts. Rumor has it that Westgate Resorts is on the lookout for new sites to construct in Northern and Southern California.

Future Growth Predicted in New Global Markets

The World Wide Shared Vacation Ownership Report research indicated that timeshare’s future will include more growth in the global timeshare market (now nearing 2%). The research reports 5300 resorts in 108 countries supporting more than 1.1 million jobs and generating over $45 million in direct economic output in 2010. Findings also show that ownership is likely to expand to numerous countries, particularly Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Breckenridge Grand Vacations Teams up for Trail Work

Breckenridge Grand Vacations (BGV), developer of award-winning Grand Lodge on Peak 7, Grand Timber Lodge and Gold Point Resorts launched their annual trail maintenance volunteer program this past week.

Over the next two months, the BGV employees and timeshare owners will make bridge repairs, install and check steps and provide general trail maintenance.

Since 2009, BGV has partnered with the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District (FDRD), a local non-profit dedicated to the improvement of the National Forest lands, by adopting the Peaks Trail that begins behind the Grand Lodge on Peak 7 and continues on to Frisco.

Through this partnership, BGV has become an integral part of the conservation of the Peaks Trail for visitors and locals alike to use and enjoy.

Following this year’s efforts, the company will have accumulated almost 1,300 volunteer hours for this project.

“BGV’s work on this trail has helped make it more sustainable for all types of users and has made an incredible impact in our community overall,” said Sara Slaton, Program Manager for the FDRD.

BGV commits to having several trained crew leaders to help convey proper techniques for bridge repair, trail maintenance and guiding new and returning volunteers. This year, the company recruited almost 100 volunteers, including Mike Millisor, Owner and Developer of BGV and his sons Luke and Nick.

“A few years ago, I was approached by Friends of the Dillon Ranger District to become involved in their Adopt-a-Trail program,” said Millisor.

“It immediately jumped out at me as the perfect way to provide an opportunity for our employees to get involved in the BGV commitment to giving back,” Millisor said.

The next dates are Saturday July 27 and Sunday, July 28 and each work day will run from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. BGV provides a free barbecue at the end of the day for the volunteers to enjoy.

Breckenridge Grand Vacations is the parent company of the award-winning Grand Lodge on Peak 7, Grand Timber Lodge and Gold Point Resort.

Since 1985, brothers Mike and Rob Millisor, along with partner Mike Dudick, developers of the Breckenridge Grand Vacations family of resorts, have been creating great vacations for thousands of families.

This is not the first time BGV has won the prestigious ARDY Award. BGV’s team members have won the award in numerous categories over the past eight years including last year’s winning of the top ARDY award by BGV’s Marketing Service Team.

Breckenridge Grand Vacations has once again made a major impact in the Awards program of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA).

The success in the annual international competition for the best timeshare sales and marketing teams and individuals is a credit to the company, said David Stroeve, RRP, Vice President of Sales.

“We are made up of the right people, doing the right things and treating people right.”

Over the past eight years, Dave and his team have won the prestigious ARDY in numerous categories. This year is no different. When the winners are announced this week at ARDA World 2013 in Hollywood, FL, Breckenridge Grand Vacations (BGV) will be again represented by a slate of stellar finalists.

In the category of Marketing Team, the BGV Event Team is a top ranked finalist. Last year the BBGV Marketing Services Team won the “ARDY” for best in the world.

Breckenridge Grand Vacations Expands Grand Lodge on Peak 7

Breckenridge Grand Vacations, of Breckenridge, CO, and parent company of the Grand Lodge on Peak 7, Grand Timber Lodge, and Gold Point Resort, broke ground this spring on the second and last building of their newest resort. Plan now for a timeshare rental vacation to this family-friendly vacation spot of the Rocky Mountains.

The Grand Lodge on Peak 7, upon completion, will consist of 114 two-bedroom units in two buildings. With the commencement of construction on the North building this spring the resort is presently more than 50% sold out with sales expected to be complete in 2014.

The Grand Lodge on Peak 7 is located slopeside on Peak 7 of the Breckenridge Ski Resort. Mere steps from the Independence SuperChair, the resort offers unparalleled amenities for its owners and guests including an indoor/outdoor aquatics area, onsite day spa (Soothe), restaurant (Sevens), a family game room and four 8-12 person theaters.

Bucking current trends in real estate, the Grand Lodge on Peak 7 had a record sales month in February of 2011, generating over $7,000,000 in real estate sales - the best month in the company’s 25-year history. Then March surpassed that record with the company’s first $8 million dollar month. The building permit for the second building was the only multi-family permit requested in the past three years for the town of Breckenridge.

Location, amenities and quality are only a few reasons for the success of the project. The resort’s unique home-ownership plan enables families who thought they couldn’t afford ski-in/ski-out real estate to purchase only the time they will use at a fraction of the price of whole ownership. Being a timeshare resort, owners purchase one-week increments at the resort, making the dream of owning ski-in/ski-out real estate a reality for over 4,500 people so far.

The South building, Phase 3 of Grand Lodge on Peak 7, was opened in December, 2010, completing the first of the two buildings planned for that resort. Phase 3 added 28 two bedroom units to the existing 28 units from Phases 1 and 2, which almost doubles the resort's capacity.

Breckenridge Grand Vacations is a locally owned and operated company. Its principals are three local business men, brothers Rob and Mike Millisor and Mike Dudick, have lived in the area over 25 years and head the 325 employee company.

Breckenridge is noted as a premier family destination for both summer and winter vacations.
