The Oscars Have Nothing on ARDA!

If you are like most people, you watched the Academy Awards Sunday evening. The ARDA Awards may not have the buzz that surrounded this year's Academy Awards, but there’s certain to be excitement at the ARDA Awards ceremony. The timeshare world awaits the announcement of the ARDA Award Finalists with great anticipation. ARDA Winners and the winners of the ACE Awards will be announced May 4th at the ARDA World 2016 Awards Gala.

And the ARDA Goes to…

One of the highlights of the award ceremony is the presentation of the ARDA Circle of Excellence (ACE) awards that honor those who have "attained the very highest level of excellence in the resort industry and whose accomplishments and dedication spur the industry."

The ARDA Awards Program also recognizes the best nominees submitted in categories that include overall professional excellence in these four divisions.

Everything to Love About ARDA World 2015!

The Marriott World Center's pristine course was the
perfect kick-off for ARDA World 2015!
No one has ever said the Timeshare Industry is boring, and this year's events at ARDA World continue to prove it definitely isn't! And, no one has ever said the industry wasn't charitable, which it is. The industry kicked off its premier annual event, ARDA World 2015, by exhibiting both attributes.

Charity Poker Event

Track Results helped to start the conference off right by hosting the Second Annual Poker Night on Saturday at the Marriott World Center in Orlando. The event raised $50,000 for the benefit of Send Me on Vacation, an organization that provides women with breast cancer once-in-a-lifetime trips with their loved ones. For some women these trips provide a chance to rejuvenate after months of battling the illness, for others, it may be the last chance they have to travel with their families. The poker tournament is a way for ARDA World attendees to enjoy a night playing poker, blackjack, or roulette while raising money to send more women on these life-changing trips.

AIF Golf Tournament

The ARDA International Foundation (AIF) led the way on Sunday, with its 14th Annual AIF Open Golf Tournament. Participants had a challenging but enjoyable time on the beautifully landscaped course at the Marriott World Center's Hawk's Landing Golf Club. AIF is the entity of ARDA that fulfills the industry’s research and education needs, including identifying consistent and ongoing benchmarks, expanding research, analyzing technological changes and impacts, and enhancing the public’s knowledge of the timeshare industry. AIF relies on fundraising events like the golf tournament to produce research, studies and educational programs that advance the industry.

ARDA World Kick-Off Party

Following the golf tournament Sunday was the ARDA World 2015 Kick-Off Party. The event featured plenty of food, drink and even outdoor games. During the Kick-Off Party, ARDA-WIN Advantage, one of the sponsors of the event, presented its WINspiration Award to Lani Kane Hanan, EVP Marriott Vacations Worldwide. ARDA-WIN advantage is a women-centric group that focuses on networking, mentoring and diversity/inclusion within the vacation industry. The WINspiration Award is given to the member that has shown excellence in philanthropic service, leadership, and in contributions and support made to WIN.

ARDA World continues until Friday with educational sessions, committee meetings, an Awards Gala Dinner and the closing Breakfast of Champions featuring two-time NHL Stanley Cup Champion, Bill Clement. More information can be found directly on ARDA's website!

A Session for Everything

The event features so many sessions, we can't mention them all, but here's a few to get you interested. A hot topic right now, how to handle defaulted inventory, will be covered in a Wednesday session called, Defaulted Inventory, Inventory Recovery and Protecting Owners and the Association. Grand Pacific Resort’s Nigel Lobo will be one of the speakers talking about all the legal, regulatory and practical aspects of dealing with timeshare inventory in default status.

Another session on Wednesday, Short-term Fever: Variable-term vacation products – Time for a new approach? Innovators like Tom Lyons from Global Connections, Inc. will discuss various short-term products for those buyers not interested in long-term commitments.

Don’t miss Thursday session, Is Your Yelp showing? Led by moderator/speaker Robert A. Kobek from CustomerCount. Learn how to make your message more impactful through the right multimedia content.

Find Your Committee

One of the more important parts of ARDA is the behind the scenes work of the committees. There are a number of them meeting during the event. These committees are not just for industry professionals, but they are also for owners. For instance, the HOA Outreach Committee will meet during the event on Monday, April 13. This ARDA committee works both to provide information about timeshare plan owners associations and its members. It also assists HOA Board of Directors and Board officers in their efforts to oversee or partner with a professional manager or management company in the successful operation of a vacation resort property.

Congratulate your Award-winning Colleagues

Kick back and have some fun at the Awards Gala Dinner and Entertainment event Wednesday evening. Be the first to congratulate the winners of the ARDA Circle of Excellence (ACE) awards honoring those that have attained the very highest level of excellence in the resort industry through their accomplishments and dedication.

Resale Forum to Focus on Developing Best Practices

An important and very current topic being discussed at ARDA World is resale. The Monday, April 7th forum is a “Resale Best Practices Workshop.” The focus will be on developing best practices for resale programs benefiting legacy resorts. The 2011 HOA Controlled Resort report found that only 48% of legacy resorts had a resale program in place for resort-owned inventory. Resale programs for owner inventory was even lower at 24%.
This forum asks exchange companies, title companies, resale organizations, legal entities, financial providers and others who wish to share their knowledge and expertise to join the forum. The objective is to help legacy resorts overcome financial obstacles by developing a solid resale program. The concentration will be on using best practices to produce a program that all industry segments can support. Legacy resorts will benefit from a Resale Guide that will highlight the workshop results. It will be made available to all HOA-controlled resorts via websites, webinars and education programs.

Other Noteworthy Forums

Also on Monday, is a Resort Management Forum. Industry professionals with a focus or expertise in resort management will participate in an interactive, round-table discussion. And on Wednesday, a Sales and Marketing Forum will focus on how to reach the new generation of timeshare owners. Experts from outside the timeshare industry will share what they know about these generations, and how they reach and retain them as customers. Find out more at ARDA.org.

ARDA World’s Breakfast of Champions Keynote Speaker is a Real Champion

This year the convention ends with a wallop.  Keynote speaker at ARDA’s Breakfast of Champions on April 10th packs a huge punch! Michael Durant’s list of achievements is long and unparalleled. If you’ve n ever seen the award-winning movie, Black Hawk Down, you will remember the valor of the pilot of a Black Hawk helicopter Super Six Four that was fired upon and brought down during a combat operation in Mogadishu, Somalia in October of 1993. That pilot and inspiration for the movie was Michael Durant. He was shot, severely beaten and held captive by the Somalis for 11 days.

Durant uses his experience as a soldier and hostage, and what he learned about being an American and a leader, to captivate and motivate his audiences.  His unique experiences are used to bring his audiences insight on personal and professional growth. His speech inspires both companies and individuals to achieve success, despite obstacles, through better planning, motivation and adaption. Durant brings to life his experiences with vivid personal accounts and mesmerizing visuals to illustrate the power of leadership, teamwork and change. His many awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, two Distinguished Flying Crosses and a Bronze Star for Valor, just to name a few. He is also a best-selling author, and president and chief executive officer of Pinnacle Solutions.
